A RARE FRENCH ANCIEN REGIME NAVAL BOARDING AXE, circa 1790, with steel hand-forged head approx. 10 in. overall, with a 4 in. x 4 in. cutting blade and 4 in. four-sided spike of diamond cross-section and with front and rear langets, blade with inspection mark, riveted to a wooden shaft with a pair of three scored horizontal lines towards the end, pitting and rust stains, appears to have been re-shafted as there is no belt-hook or signs of there having been one attached to the shaft, 26 in. overall length
